The 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a 2-door roadster/coupe that is available in
three separate trims: the SLK300, SLK350 and SLK55. These 2-seat Formula
One-inspired roadsters feature retractable hard tops that close and open
completely in 22 seconds. Just press the button and the work is done for you.
MSRPs are surprisingly easy to swallow, especially considering that we are
discussing Mercedes-Benz. The SLK300, SLK350 and SLK55 retail for $45,950,
$50,950 and $65,700 respectively.
The 2009 SLK300 (previously the SLK280) is the entry-level trim and features a
3.0L 228hp V6 that is married to a 6-speed manual transmission that torques out
221 ft-lb at 2500 rpm. Its 3208-pound curb weight allows it to grant drivers
17/25 mpg city/highway. The SLK350 steps up performance, efficiency and power
with a 3.5L 300hp V6 that cranks out 265 ft-lb at 4900 rpm with a 7-speed
automatic transmission. Its curb weight is 3318 pounds. Fuel efficiency ratings
are at 18/25. And the class is topped out with the SLK55. It features a 5.4L
355hp V8 with the 7-speed auto and generates 376 ft-lb of torque at 400 rpm. As
you might expect, fuel ratings drop here to 14/22 city/highway while carrying
its 3472-pound curb weight.
All trims of the Mercedes SLK-Class are rear wheel-driven with turning radii of
17.3 feet. All trims also include standard features including 6 airbags,
electronic traction and stability control systems, ABS braking with Brake Assist
and the Mercedes-Benz Tele Aid communication system for emergencies. The entire
class has been stylistically refreshed for the 2009 model year. Basic
Mercedes-Benz warranties are valid for 48 months or 50,000 miles.
Although the interior very comfortably seats the 2 people that it is intended
to, the SLK-Class, like the Porsche Boxster, is not renowned for its hauling
capacity. Maximum cargo capacity is 9.8 cubic feet on all trims. The wheelbase
for all trims is 95.7 inches while the overall vehicle length is 161.5 inches.
The design is one of the most impressive ever produced by Mercedes-Benz. It
combines a sporty look with obvious quality and integrity. There's no mistaking
the Mercedes nature and people will definitely be spinning around as you pass
them by.
The 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a great buy and offers all of the standard
and optional luxury features that you would expect it to. Both poised and
elegant, the SLK-Class from Mercedes-Benz continues to be an excellent seller. |
