The 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt is available in a four-speed automatic transmission or
a five-speed manual version. Two types of engines are offered as well: a 155 hp,
2.2 L and a 260 hp, 2.0 L version.
For the 2009 model year, the Cobalt is available in both a two-door coupe and
four-door sedan styles. Side curtain airbags, an important safety feature, are
not available on the Cobalt. An OnStar communication system is standard on all
models, as well as XM Satellite Radio. Buyers receive the first year of service
from OnStar at no extra charge.
Car buyers who are considering the 2009 Chevy Cobalt may also be looking at the
Toyota Corolla, the Ford Focus, or the Honda Civic. The Cobalt, with its 103.3
inch wheelbase, is longer than other vehicles in its class. It is narrower than
the Corolla or the Civic but wider than the Focus. All of the '09 models have a
grille split horizontally that includes a gold bowtie badge. Buyers have the
option of choosing between 15, 16, 17, and 18 inch wheels, depending on the
model they are interested in. The rear-end design is different for the sedan and
the coupe.
Looking inside the Cobalt, you will see front bucket seats and a split (60/40)
folding rear seat. This vehicle is designed to seat five passengers in comfort.
Many benefits are offered that make this vehicle desirable for residents in
those chilly northern states. These include an optional remote start system in
the automatic transmission version. Heated leather seats are available as an
option on the LT model. Other buyers will lean toward the Bluetooth
connectivity. Finally, a CD player, air conditioning, and XM Satellite radio are
all standard features.
If you buy a Cobalt, you will be looking at getting between 22-25 mpg in the
city and 30-37 mpg for highway driving. The interior may be a bit basic, but
this car will give its occupants a comfortable ride with a minimum of road
noise.
The LT trim package comes with front and rear (carpeted) floor mats and a
premium cloth seat trim. Power window and door locks and a remote keyless entry
are also part of this package. Going with the SS Turbocharged gives you these
features in addition to a rear spoiler, a leather steering wheel, an upgraded
radio, and cruise control. The MSRP for the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt is starts at
$15,010. Even with upgrades this vehicle tops out around $22,000 which gets you
a vehicle with some nice features that won't break the bank.
