The Cadillac STS full size luxury performance sedan debuted for the 2005 model
year, replacing the Seville in the exclusive Cadillac montage. The STS
originally boasted an elegantly designed exterior, nimble handling, powerful
engine options and lush interiors and has not changed much since its
introduction-but there have been little to no complaints about that.
Luxury is obvious from both inside and out. The body style and elegant Cadillac
grille are similar to the Cadillac CTS sedan, but the sharp lines have been
softened with smoother edges which complimented the look of this sportier sedan
and contributed to its distinctive visual appearance. Inside, the cabin is full
of comfort and convenience features.
The STS is based upon General Motors rear and all wheel drive Sigma
architecture. When it was introduced it was available in only one stunning trim
that could be purchased with a 3.6 liter V6 or 4.6 liter V8, both with
sophisticated suspension systems. Only the V8 version was available with all
wheel drive. The V6 delivered a highly regarded 255 horsepower while the V8
models' 320 horsepower really gave it the ability to get up and go. The standard
5 speed automatic transmission had near flawless execution at all times.
Cadillac listened to public response to the STS, which was for the most part
tremendously positive. Concerns were promptly addressed for the 2006 model year,
the V6 edition gained the all wheel drive option and interior features were
upgraded to include a Bose stereo and navigation system as part of the Luxury
Package available for the V8. For the 2007 model year, the STS changed to stay
current with advances in technology and engineering and a 6 speed automatic
transmission was mated to the V8 model, which now carried a trim name of Luxury,
and a Performance Handling Options Package arrived that included 18 inch chrome
wheels, sport tires and top of the line Brembo brakes. To the delight of
consumers and showing faith in their brand, the powertrain warranty was extended
to 5 years/100,000 miles.
The Cadillac STS has consistently represented an extremely attractive
alternative to foreign and domestic luxury sport sedans. It's sleek and chic
visual appeal, powerful performance, nimble handling and all wheel drive
capability have earned it a widespread reputation of being the best Cadillac
ever produced. |
