The 2008 Audi S5 is a high-performance 2-door coupe that is powered by a 354hp
V8 engine with a 6-speed manual transmission standard. You may also opt for a
Tiptronic automatic transmission. Everything about the S5 is in place to enhance
its performance, from its superb suspension to its powerful brakes. Even the
exterior of the car portends the great power beneath the hood from its
aggressive grille and headlamps to the massive 18inch wheels.
The athletic treatment of the cockpit is an extension of the muscular character
of the S5. Surfaces within the vehicle are refined yet brutal, with inlays in
choices of wood, aluminum, and carbon fiber. If all you ever touch is the
steering wheel, you still get the impression inside the S5 that more than just
steering the vehicle, you are hanging on for dear life.
The safety features of the 2008 Audi S5 leave very little to be desired, in that
you get driver and front passenger dual stage airbags, side impact and side
curtain airbags. Every S5 comes with side impact reinforced door beams and shock
absorbing crumple zones. Being that the car is capable of going 0-60mph in 5.1
seconds, it is of some comfort knowing that the S5 comes with oversize front
disc brakes, ABS, and traction control.
The interior of the 2008 Audi S5 is swathed in leather, and accented in
attractive materials. The driving and handling parameters of the S5 are
well-balanced and agile. There is very little lean or sway, even in aggressive
driving situations. Side by side driving comparisons performed with the S5 and
comparable European sedans left those owners a bit distressed. There is even the
promise of a cabriolet model to be unveiled later this year. |
